Professional development:During my most recent Professional Experience I had the opportunity to participate in a partnership run "ACARA" day. This gave me the chance to engage with colleagues and improve my practice. During this professional development day I witnessed a presentation which would greatly influence my teaching of narrative writing. This colleague had been to a conference which had explored "the 7 tips for writing success" which provides a scaffolded structure to follow when constructing both narratives and persuasive writing pieces. I used this concept to shape my unit planning illustrating my ability to engage with colleagues to improve my practice.
Evidence from Professional Experience reports:“Petra’s understanding of the two units taught to the students was quite strong. She utilised and adapted information provided to her at a conference in order to give students a very strong understanding about the conventions of horror narrative.” Year 11 SACE Stage 1 English mentor. |

Below is an introductory PowerPoint, which was further broken down during latter lessons, it details the adaptation of "the 7 steps to writing success" that I applied to the construction of Horror Narratives.
