Communication strategies:During each of my professional experiences I developed many communication strategies. I have learnt that each classroom context requires unique approaches that are closely aligned with classroom and behavioural management. During my first placement I was introduced to the concept of using pop sticks, labelled with student names, to create a no hands up environment. This stops students from either dominating or dodging involvement in classroom discussion. This concept communicates that all voices are equally important within the learning space and fosters the view that any contribution to the learning process is valid. I found this to be a good way of encouraging communication in middle school classrooms particularly during whole class discussions. During my final placement, while teaching senior years, I developed the ability to communicate 1 on 1 with students while continuing to have a sense of 'with-it-ness' concerning the happenings of the rest of the class.
